Paul Callaghan is Chairman of Leighton, the North East based technology, software, media and communications group that he founded. Leighton operates at the cutting edge of new technology and currently has six companies based in the North East that lead the UK in their respective markets: Communicator Corp, a leading global enterprise email management company; Leighton, the North East’s largest Digital Consultancy, offering a wide range of creative and technical services, designing and developing high profile digital projects; Business Education Publishers, a long-established publishing company; Business Process Optimiser, developers of innovative web-based software for a wide range of industries; The WorkCast Corporation, a leading supplier of online webcasting solutions and services; and Software Nation, a software development company offering bespoke business software solutions across all industry sectors.

Among the group's clients are British Airways, the Australian Government, Adidas, Lloyds TSB, Toshiba, the 2012 London Olympics and many more.

Paul co-founded DomainNames.com in 1997 and helped it to grow to become one of Europe’s largest domain name registrars before selling it to VeriSign in 2000. 4Projects, the UK's market leader in the provision of on-line Project Management software, which had been established as part of the Leighton Group in 2000 was sold in 2007 to its management team. Paul was born in Sunderland and began his career as a research economist. He has a first degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, a Masters degree in Management and Education from Newcastle University and a further Masters degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Salford.
